Texture and Neutrals
The changing of the summer season when the humidity drops and the air starts to feel crisp might be one of my favorite times of the year. I just love making the house feel cozy on the inside way before it gets super cold outside. Decorating for the fall season always feels like a bigger shift versus going from spring to summer. And, this is the time of year when I love to switch things a little more. I’ve really enjoyed playing with lots of texture and neutrals for our home this fall season. Using a neutral color palette has helped us keep the modern coastal fall vibe for our home near the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.

wispy dried stems
One of the main pieces of inspiration for this year’s decor has been wispy dried grasses that you see everywhere in our area. The grass’s plumes deepen in tone a little this time of year, and I decided to use the stems and their hues in our home for our fall decor this year. Also, the grasses are light and airy and they really help to keep a modern coastal fall feel for our home.
I’ve used these in many spots in our home. The best part is this is an affordable change. You can buy these inexpensively or maybe even clip some for free! I anticipate keeping a lot of these around for our holiday decor as well. Since they are nice and neutral, you can really combine anything with them!
other textural elements
I also decided to add some more texture with some rattan pieces.I found so many great rattan pumpkins at Target this year. They were so affordable and I love mixing some of the different size pieces in our home decor for the season. During the Labor Day sales I was able to land some great deals on oversize baskets. I love how these have a pretty coastal stripe on them, too!
Sprinkling neutral accents throughout really helped our home feel like fall. These ceramic pumpkin dishes are perfect for a dining table or kitchen. They can be used for Thanksgiving Dinner as well. To give our shelves a little refresh, I swapped out a blue colored vase for this neutral piece of coastal art in a natural frame. It was just the element of depth that this space needed.
I hope you have enjoyed our Modern Coastal Home Fall Tour! It’s feeling so super cozy in here and I’m loving it! Now I’m off to grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte and a sweater and pretend like it’s cool outside :).
